Description:
Poncho's life, prior to coming to SoCo Rescue, was apparently pretty rough. He came to us after his former owner, a breeder who obtained him at an early age, decided to give him up. While his prior life had one purpose: to breed puppies. Now at 10 years old, Poncho is finally getting the opportunity to become a beloved family pet. It's was obvious that Poncho spent most of his days confined and without receiving the day to day interaction with people, causing him to become timid. Now that Poncho has a thumbs up from the vet he is in his first home. Poncho is being fostered by a wonderful family who has done wonders for him. Here's some words from Poncho's foster family. "I'm kind of new to this dog thing. You see, I was a "stud", except I don't think I did it very well because my owner was never very happy with me. I was kept in a small crate for about 10 years. I wasn't allowed out much. But some nice people saw the predicament I was in and thought I would be better at something else. "Charisma", who knew?? My "fairy godmother" is making great strides with me. I am a work in progress but getting better every day. I'm am learning the "rules of the road" for the very first time and guess what.....if this is how life is supposed to be, I'm going to be GREAT!!!! Poncho has tested negative for heart worms, was neutered and received all of his vaccinations. We knew he had an issue with his teeth and an examination revealed that he had “an abundance of hair” entangled in his teeth. This was a cause for the removal of 10 teeth. We also had a dental cleaning preformed and he is as good as new. While most people wouldn't consider adopting an elder, we know that there has to be someone out there that is willing to give this fellow a loving home for the remainder of his life. And we are willing to reduce our normal adoption fee to help Poncho find his new home. Because of his timid nature, we do think that a home without young children or a lot of commotion would serve him best.
