***Adoption Pending** Peanut is currently located at our shelter in Georgia. He is available for adoption in the New Jersey and surrounding areas and is scheduled to be available for adoption at our June 26th weekend adoption event at All Good Dogs in Monmouth Junction. Interested parties should first submit an application at socorescue.com*** When we first met Peanut, it was apparent that his neglect of care began long before he and four other dogs found themselves in dire need of help. All four dogs were left alone at their former home after one of their owners passed away unexpectedly, leaving his widow brokenhearted and causing her to move out of the home. The widow thought someone was going by to feed and care for the dogs, but from the amount of feces and scattered trash inside the home, it's evident that no one really gave much thought about the safety and wellbeing of Peanut and his companions. Luckily, a very compassionate young lady who was visiting the area became aware of the predicament the dogs were in, contacted us and asked for help. She followed our advice to immediately contact law enforcement and even offered to check on and feed the dogs while she was in the area. After receiving permission from the Dublin/Laurens Co Animal Control, we were able to speak with the widow and make arrangments to get Peanut and his companions into our rescue rather quickly. This senior Maltese was so badly matted that he had large amounts of feces stuck in his fur and his vision was completely obstructed. From the fear of being left alone with little to no food or water, being miserably covered in filth and waste and not being able to even see, Peanut came to us very frightened and defensive. Our attempts to clean him up were met with attempts to bite and growls. But after we were able to get him groomed at the Sandersville Vet Clinic, Peanut has chilled out quite a bit and seems to want to be friends. He will still growl at times but hasn't tried to bite anymore. Because of this, we'll only accept applications for his adoption from homes where young children are not present and any other occupants of the home understand that a growl simply means "give me space". With a little bonding time, we fully expect Peanut's personality to greatly improve as trust is built between him and his new family. Peanut has now been neutered, received an update on his annual vaccinations, deworming and preventative care. He was also given a dental exam which determined his teeth were in "very good condition" and didn't require any attention at that time. Peanut may require additional house training, especially after being locked inside his former home. Peanut's adopter should understand the importance of proper grooming that he'll need. If interested in adopting Peanut, please first submit n application at socorescue.com. If selected to adopt Peanut, one of our team members will contact you ASAP.
