Other Pictures of Betty (click to see larger version):***Adoption Pending*** After learning of a hoarding situation, a neighboring county's animal control asked if SoCo Rescue could help by taking all of the dogs into our care. The AC officer explained that the owner of the dogs was disabled, indigent and unable to pay any fines that would levied against him if the dogs had to be impounded, thus resulting in jail time for the disabled owner; something that no one wanted to see happen. SoCo gladly offered help, met with the owner and came away with twenty Terrier-Dachshund mix dogs ranging in age from 3 weeks old to 5 years. Most of these dogs were suffering from various stages of fur loss, somewhat timid due to improper socialization and grossly underweight. They were all filthy, covered in fleas and infested with worms. Betty was the lone survivor from her litter and her former owner has no idea what happened to her litter mates, only telling us he thinks a "snapping turtle ate them", which isn't even a possibility. Betty is very affectionate towards people but displays a slight fear of other dogs when first meeting them. We're confident that once she settles in, she'll be fine with other dogs. Betty has received 2/3 of her first year "puppy" vaccinations and her final round will be due on Oct 1. She's also been de-wormed, treated against parasites and tapeworms, started on her monthly preventatives and will have also received her rabies and bordetella vaccinations by the time she leaves for her new home. Her adopter must agree to having Betty spay once she reaches 6 months of age and provide proof of such to our rescue. Betty will need all of her basic training. While Betty has already been treated for the hair loss she still has thin fur on the top of her head. An application for the adoption of Betty can be submitted at socorescue.com (no registration or login required)
