Rocky came to SoCo with a horrible injury on his front leg.  We think he got it caught in a trap and someone just released him and let him go with the terrible injury.  His paw was almost completely severed.  We immediately brought him to the rescue and tended to his injury.  We gave him multiple feedings throughout the day because on top of his injury, the poor baby's ribs were sticking out.  

We brought Rocky to the vet and they said there was nothing they could do to save his leg.  We set up a fundraiser and thanks to many generous donations we were able to get Rocky's leg amputated.  Rocky did so well after the surgery he came back the very next day.  Rocky started walking around with hardly any problems and it didn't seem to phase him that his leg was gone. I'm sure before the surgery he was in excruciating pain and afterwards was a huge relief to alleviate the pain.

While Rocky was at the vet it was determined that he is heart worm positive.  He was put on a medicine for a month which shrinks the heart worms.  Rocky though is still positive for heart worms and we're keeping him on the slow kill method.  With this method he gets a monthly preventative and in time the existing heart worms die off.  We've had great success with the slow kill method in which after some time the dogs treated tested negative.  

Rocky is a very sweet and docile little guy that really enjoys attention and love.  He would do very well in an apartment and/or household without small children.

As of 3/1/16 it's estimated Rocky is 4-5 years old.  He his current on all his vaccinations and he is neutered.  Once adopted he will need to be kept up on his monthly heart worm preventative.
