As a woman was driving to an appointment, she noticed a little puppy sitting all alone between two abandoned houses. Unable to stop at that time, the woman drove back by the abandoned houses, she saw the same puppy sitting in the same exact spot. Upon closer examination, the woman saw that the pup obviously hadn't eaten in few days as she was very frail and weak. She coaxed the puppy to her, took her home and then called her friends at SoCo Rescue seeking help. Within a couple of days we were able to take this pup in and gave her the name of "Jewel" after the woman's young daughter, who took a very special interest in caring for the pup.

Jewel was grossly underweight (under 5 lbs.) when she first arrived. She was very apprehensive of human interaction at first, didn't display any of the typical puppy-playfulness and kept a constant eye on our every movement. After a couple of weeks, Jewel not only began to regain her weight and appear healthier, she began enjoying playing with the toys that we provided her. Jewel is slowly learning to trust people but has come to realize that she loves belly rubs, being held and the these new people seemed to have plenty of treat and food for her to enjoy. We also noticed that she would cry out when she needed to go potty. Jewel will do best in a home without a lot of commotion and with someone who will fine with earning her trust-which we think will come other quickly.

We think that Jewel has some type of hound mix to her and expect her to grow to be around 40lbs and be tall/lean. She's received an update on all of her first year "puppy" vaccines, de-wormings and preventative care. Her adopter must agree to having Jewel spay once she reaches 6 months of age and provide verification of such to our rescue. As mention, she seems to have a natural house training ability but may need more training to fully master the skill. She's also  very attentive, alert and smart, so any additional training should come fairly easy.
