When Olivia was found in August of this year, she was suffering from a case of * Demodex mange so severe that it had left her completely hairless and with painfully inflamed skin. Apparently having been on her own for quite a while, she was very close to starving to death at only 4 months of age. Her belly was also full of worms and parasites which only put her overall health at greater risk. Had it not been for a couple of very compassionate sisters and their families, Olivia's story would have most likely ended up in sheer sorrow, if even told at all. Found by one of the sisters, who, despite nearing full term pregnancy, worked diligently to find help for Olivia. After calling numerous rescues and shelters only to hear "No room", she placed a call to SoCo Rescue. While Olivia wasn't within the radius of our "normal" working area, we realized that she could quickly perish if we didn't find a way to help her. After the second sister heard we needed a foster home in order to help Olivia, she offered to take on the roll of Foster Mom to her.

During Olivia's time at her foster home, she has been well socialized towards people, introduced to other dogs, cats and young children, being extremely friendly to all. She's almost completely house trained but does need a bit more time and training to fully master the skill. But her very gentle and sweet "social butterfly" personality makes her an "Top-tier" choice for anyone looking for a new best friend or family companion. Olivia's only drawback is her separation anxiety.  When left alone for any amount of time, she becomes very anxious. This is something that help from a trainer or the presence of another dog may help correct.

Olivia has received an update on all of her annual vaccinations, de-wormings and other needed vet care. She has been kept on her monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives. We've kept her on Bravecto flea/tick preventatives as it aids in the treatment of Demodex mange, which is hereditary but not contagious to other dogs. Olivia has regained almost all of her fur and is looking much better. She has also now been spayed.

***NOTE: The final three pictures show how severe Olivia's Demodex truly was and just how far she has come in such a short time.  She should regrow all of her fur
