Jamie came to our rescue after being found one morning as a stray by a senior lady who just happens to live next door to SoCo Rescue. Having previously met and exchanged phone numbers with Scott Bennett, she immediately knew who to call. By the description that the senior lady gave, Scott knew it had to be the same "chihuahua-looking" dog that another woman had reported seeing within a mile of the rescue on the previous night. Scott had also been told that the dog looked to be starving so he immediately went searching but was unable to locate the dog. When Scott arrived at the neighbor's home, he found a very skinny female Feist sniffing the ground with sheer determination of finding something to eat. The little dog was very interested in the canned dog food that Scott was offering but was also very hesitant about getting too close.  Most likely convinced by her hungry belly, Jamie finally decided to just trust Scott and allowed him to place her inside a crate in exchange for the delicious smelling food.

It was easy to tell that Jamie was accustomed to being an inside dog. During her initial quarantine period, she was regulated to a crate and taken out for walks multiple times during the day. The first night she did relieve herself inside the crate, but after that and with multiple walks each day, she rarely dedicated inside her crate again. She is a very friendly girl but is still a little hesitant when approached too quickly by a person or when they attempt to pick her up, Scott found that by sitting on the floor and letting Jamie come to him, she was less apprehensive about being picked up. She gets excited when she sees you pick up a leash and will pace around when she needs to go outside. While she'll make a great companion for a senior/retired person, she'll also do very well in a home with older children. (Young children or a home with a lot of commotion and/or undue excitement would not be good for Jamie.).

To look at Jamie now, you'd never think that she was recently skin and bones. (see final three pictures.) After being placed on a proper diet, getting a renewal of her annual vaccinations, de-wormings and started on her monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives, Jamie is now looking and feeling like a much healthier dog. On the day she was spay, she also received a negative test result on her heartworm test. We've estimated Jamie to be approx 2 years old but she could be slightly older.

***NOTE: Jamie did escape from a 3' tall enclosure at our rescue, most likely by jumping over the top. She played a game of "cat-and-mouse" with us until we offered her some tasty food (She loves Fresh Pet Chicken mix)
