According to the man, the dog had been left behind by his former owner when they moved. Brisco was left chained to a tree without any food, water or any provisions for his care after they moved. To complicate matters, a neighbor had given a deadline for someone to take the dog or he would "...put that dog out of his misery. When the young man heard of Brisco's plight, he went to check on him and got there as the neighbor was headed towards Brisco with gun in hand. The young man didn't know what he was going to do with Brisco, but put him in his truck to keep him from getting shot. It was later that evening when the young man was out searching for someone to help Brisco and just happened to be in the same mobile home park and at the same time as Scott. After meeting Brisco and hearing his story, Scott gladly accepted Brisco into the SoCo Rescue family. It took a little while for Brisco to not only regain his health, but to also regain his confidence in people. He immediately became friends with another dog at the rescue and the two of them are still buddies today. Brisco can be a little apprehensive when first meeting another dog so a meet-n-greet with any other dogs at the home is advised. He's always been friendly and non-aggressive towards people but can be a little shy at first but settles in rather quickly and becomes very people oriented. He is a very active and energetic dog. Overall, Brisco will make a great companion for an active person/family, even with older children. Brisco will need additional leash, house and basic training. But being a shepherd breed, he is very smart and learns very quickly with proper training. Brisco has been neutered, had an update on all of his annual vaccinations and de-worming, started and kept on his monthly preventatives. He also tested negative for heartworms. He is accustomed to staying in a crate but we recommend the use of a metal pan style as he's been known to tear up the plastic type.
