SoCo Rescue was contacted by a woman who was going through a separation and needed help rehoming and providing care for some of her dogs. Among her dogs was one she had plans to keep, a smaller sized 2 year old Aussie mix who was pregnant for the third time. The father to these pups was also the son of the pregnant Aussie from a previous litter.

 

After much discussion and not knowing how far along in the pregnancy her dog was, it was determined that the best option was to have the pregnancy aborted and have the pregnant dog spayed. Being completely booked up, the earliest the woman could get an appointment was a couple of weeks away. On the day of the appointment, Sept 29th, and as the woman arrived at the vet's office, her dog went into labor and started delivering her puppies while inside the woman's car! We had the woman bring mom and her 5 pups to our facility and agreed to allow the mom dog to nurse her pups here then return the mom dog to her once her pups had been weaned from her. Two of those pups appeared to be much smaller than the others and struggled to survive. Unfortunately, those two pups passed away within a week of their birth, but the other three thrived and have grown up to be very healthy pups. 

 

During their stay at SoCo Rescue the three pups were under the care and watchful eye of our President and CEO, Scott Bennett. The pups received a lot of personal attention and were given the very best of care. Scott thoroughly enjoyed watching the pups grow and develop into having wonderful personalities. Britni, the only female, is the most affectionate and looks almost identical to her mom, even having the same nub tail as her mom. Beta, the black male has the same beautiful blue eyes and extremely friendly personality as his mom. Booker, grey and white, looks more like his dad and is alpha pup among this litter. All three, however, have excellent and very friendly personalities and should make great additions into just about any home.

 

All three pups have now received 2/3 of their first year "puppy" vaccines, been de-wormed and treated against parasites and started on their monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives. (They will need to obtain their rabies vaccine after they reach 12 weeks of age.)   The adopters of these pups must agree to having them spay or neutered once the pup reaches 6 months of age and provide verification to our rescue. They will need all of their basic training.
