The couple kept Cricket for two days hoping to locate her owner. During those two days and even during her first night with us, Cricket was unable to stand or use her rear legs, causing us to think that she'd suffered a severe spinal injury. But to our surprise, on her second day with us, Cricket began to stand and walk but with a wobble. Over the next few days, Cricket was able to walk with no wobble and even started to run and play as if she hadn't suffered any sort of injury. We did notice, however, that she kept her head tilted to the right. An examination by our vet revealed no broken bones or fractures to her legs, hips or spine. While not 100% positive, our vet thinks her head tilt is a neurological injury suffered from being hit by the car. Our vet also said that the injury doesn't life-threatening nor does Cricket seem to be in any pain, but recommended that Cricket be seen by a specialist at some point. With our limited funding, not having any specialist options in our area and watching Cricket's progress, we feel the best that we can do for her at this point is to offer her for adoption with this full disclosure of her medical condition. Cricket has shown us that she was, in fact, someone's indoor companion. We attempted to locate her owner, but no one has come forward to claim her. Since arriving at our rescue, she has been under the watchful eye of Scott Bennett, being housed inside his office along with another small dog (Iris). Cricket is very people oriented, gets along great with other dogs and loves to curl up in Scott's lap, giving him kisses and lots of love. She's also become accustomed to being crated and has done very well on her house training. While her head tilt still gives us concern, we believe that Cricket will make someone a great companion, but in a home without small children. She would be ideal for a retired/senior person who is looking for a friend that will give them lots of love. Cricket has now been spayed, received an update on all of her annual vaccinations, been de-wormed and treated against parasites, and started on her monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives. She also tested negative for heartworms. All this girl needs now is someone to give her a safe and loving home.
