Her mom was also homeless at the time of Mandy's and her nine sibling's birth. For the first 6 weeks of her life, "home" to Mandy, her mom and her siblings was under an old, abandoned house in a small, rural town about an hour southwest of SoCo Rescue and in an area where there are no rescues or shelters to help a dog in need. In those such areas, for a dog, "homeless" is for life and life isn't very long in most cases. But that didn't damper the spirits of the mayor or the chief of police, both who made it their quest to find help for this family of dogs. While the chief took on the task of capturing mom and retrieving the tiny pups from under the house, the mayor took on the daunting task of calling every rescue and shelter that he could to try and find someone that could offer mom and pups a safe place to live. Once we spoke to the mayor and hearing how he wasn't finding any options for mom and pups, we made arraignments to take in mom and all of her 6 week old pups. Unfortunately, mom was very apprehensive of people and also proved to be very elusive, During the attempts to capture mom and pups, the mom dog left the area but the chief was able to safely remove all ten pups from under the house. The mayor was able to secure additional help which took in 6 of the 10 pups, leaving SoCo Rescue with Mandy and three of her sisters. Mandy and her sisters are all so full of life, love and have such a good natured temperament. They're all playful, love to cuddle and each will make wonderful additions as family pets. Sharing a home with children, who know how to properly handle a young pup, or another dog should also be ok for the sisters. Mandy has received 2/3 of her first year puppy vaccines, been de-wormed and treated against parasites and started on her monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives. Her adopter must agree to having Mandy spay once she reaches 6 months of age and providing proof of such to our rescue. Mandy will require all of her basic training.
