***Marla is being fostered in the Pennington, NJ area. At this time we're only accepting applications from Marla from the NJ/PA area.*** Marla came to SoCo Rescue in Dec of 2017 after being found as a pregnant stray. A week after arriving at our rescue, Marla delivered seven puppies. Unfortunately Marla was in such poor health at the time that none of her puppies survived. Marla was also found to be heartworm positive and had to wait until she had fully recovered from her ordeal as a stray before we could have her treated. Her foster writes.... Marla was her SoCo rescue name but we call her Moka :) Moka is smart, loyal, and very loving. She loves nothing more than tummy rubs and to sit with her humans on the couch, often with her head in our lap or glued to our side. She walks nicely on her leash, and stays quietly in her crate when she needs to. Moka likes to play fetch and romp in her fenced-in yard. She really loves her toys—sturdy stuffed animals, tug toys, kongs and balls. She loves the company of other dogs, likes being part of the pack, and mostly gets along well with her two small foster sibling dogs; she often initiates play with them. When she met them she tried to herd them, but we’ve seen less and less of that behavior over time. She can be protective of her toys and sleep space, and we did have a scuffle when our yorkie mix approached her dog bed. We suspect Moka will be good with kids, but we don’t know for sure. We also don’t know how she would be with cats. Moka sits on command and does a happy little march when she thinks she might get a treat. She learns quickly and is totally housebroken. We’ve only ever gone six hours between bathroom trips, but she might be able to hold it for a bit longer than that. She’s a couch potato and loves to sleep on the couch, but she’s also been happy with a dog bed near our bed. I’d recommend keeping Moka in her current Martingale collar for walks; on her first day with us she got scared by her new surroundings and backed out of her ordinary collar, but the Martingale works perfectly. Now that she’s settled into her foster home, she’s a very calm girl. She's now been fully vetted, was treated against heartworms has has been kept on her monthly preventatives.
