Just like Superman, Super Barkley has two identities: timid and bashful in public and confident and playful at home. Once in his comfort zone, Super Barkley springs into action showing his playful, curious, and calm side. Barkley loves playing fetch and tug and is often seen sliding across the floor and crashing into the wall just like Scooby Doo. He knows basics commands and doesn't chew anything but his toys. He will be great for agility classes and/or scent training.
On walks Barkley is very curious and with his Coonhound blood is good at scent games. Barkley also has some super powers and is frequently seen flying through the air while playing at the dog park.
He has a sensitive side too and is gentle and friendly with the family cat. Barkley likes to walk and play during the day. At night he’s a bit of a couch potato and often puts himself to sleep in his crate around 7 PM. He doesn’t need a crate but we keep it open so he always has a safe place to go. Barkley always gets up on the right side of the bed, waking us up with his happy dance every morning. He is just waiting for someone that understands both sides of his personality.
Barkely has been with SoCo since he was a puppy. Being timid, he was picked on by his litter mates which most likely contributed to his insecurity. Initially he was adopted by a mom and a little boy. While he bonded quickly with the mom, it took longer with the boy and the boy lost interest so they asked to re-home him. For this reason only we think he would do better in a home with adults. He has thrived in 2 loving foster homes, worked with a trainer and is now able to trust when shown kindness, patience and lots of treats along the way.
