**Update, 4/30/18: Winston has been in a foster home for the past month. During this time he has started to show aggression towards the foster's cats. This puzzles us as he had interacted very well with stray cats prior to coming into our rescue.**

Winston had been a fixture in our area for a number of years. On a daily basis you could find Winston and his dog buddies hanging out at the store that sits across the street from SoCo as they would try to coerce the store's patron into giving them food. Over the years all of Winston's roaming buddies met their fate after getting struck by vehicles, leaving Winston as the remaining "free-roamer". His one remaining friend, a dog named Carl, was confined to a fenced area while his former owners were dealing with an out of state family illness. In the winter of 2017, Winston's owners gave us permission to take him and Carl into our rescue so they could have a warm, safe place to reside and we now have permission to find both dogs their new homes.

Winston is friendly to both people and other dogs. We've also seen him interacting with stray cats and he doesn't seem to have any problem coexisting with them either. He has that typical hound dog relaxed personality but does enjoy going on long walks as much as he does his naps! He has a very comical personality, even the look on his face will make you smile and he just seems to love life.

At some point in his past, Winston's right front leg had been broken and left to heal on it's own. While that foot is a little deformed looking, Winston gets around just fine and even has a little hop to his gait. Winston has recently received an update on all of his vaccinations and tested negative for heartworms on April 10, 2018. We've kept him on his monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives as well

Winston just needs a home in which to retire, one that will provide him with the love and care that he deserves. If you can give Winston that home  please submit an application at socorescue.com
