**Pepe will be available for adoption at Rosedale Mills, located in Pennington, NJ, over the Feb 2-4 weekend.**

The rescue of Pepe began about 1 1/2 years before he actually came to us. We first met him while he was still with his former owners who allowed him and their other dogs to simply roam freely all over town. That led to Pepe being hit by a car and suffering a severly broken leg. The couple asked SoCo for help in getting Pepe's leg repaired. From what we were told, even after that incident, the owners still allowed Pepe to roam which led to him being hit by a car again but not suffering any major injuries. The couple also struggled to provide even the basics for their dogs, such as dog food or monthly preventatives, which led to Pepe contracting heart worms.

After 1 1/2 years of begging the couple to surrender their dogs, we were finally able to convince them to surrender them to us. Our first course of action for Pepe was to address his heart worm status, which he completed his treatments in Jan 2018 and get him caught up on his yearly vaccinations. Pepe is now living a very healthy life and should be heart worm free.

Pepe has always been very dog friendly but will occasionally be protective over his food. This most likely comes from the years of having not being fed on a regular basis but he's made much progress since coming to our rescue. Pepe's former home also included cats and he seemed to get along with them as well. One thing is for sure: Pepe is VERY people friendly and would make a great companion into just about any home situation. He walks very well on a leash and did have some house training in the past but will need time to adjust once in a new home.

Pepe occasionally favors his right rear leg, the one that was broken, when the weather is cold but manages to get around with no problems.

If you can offer Pepe the forever home that he lacked prior to coming to SoCo, then please submit an application at socorescue.com
