Description:
5-20-06 Bart left tonight with his new family from Jacksonville FL! Marilyn, 6- year old Clarissa, their best friend/dog sitter Bunnie and their two other senior rescue dogs! Before Marilyn left as she was holding Bart, he began to slowly lick my hand - then settled back into her arms and laid his head on her shoulder. We both started crying...he knew! He left with a positive happiness and eyes full of appreciation! Read Bart's incredible story below...his is proof mircales happen! Thank you to everyone who was touched by Bart's determination - and to everyone who helped him get out of the gas chamber and into the arms of a very grateful family! ******************************************************* Bart has an incredible story of determination and a will to survive! He was found alongside a road - a quadraplegic, dehydrated and scared. He could move only his head. He'd not been hit by a car - in fact he'd been left on the roadside. Veterinarians could only assume his problem was nerve damage - with little hope. He was about to put to sleep when he barked and barked with those pleading eyes. We hydrated him, gave him the weekend at the vet's to reassess his condition. He had to be hand fed - but would take a bite, then give a thank you kiss. We brought Bart home to rehabilitate. Suspended in a ferret hammock, we began to notice he'd try to push using his hind legs. Within a few days, he would 'walk' with his hind legs - his front legs useless, so he'd slide and use his long nose to advance. Every day brought progress. On Day Ten - Bart began calling us - barking! What we found brought tears to our eyes! He was standing ON all fours and took STEPS! Now - we can't catch him - he runs, he jumps, chases balls, loves to play! Our vets are amazed, perplexed but thrilled! Perhaps his problem had been a toxin. Whatever it was is now gone! Now that he can walk again - he's ready for neuter! This a very special little guy - he loves ALL humans, but makes an excellent watch dog! He loves dogs, cats, kids, adults. His walk remains comical - but he shows no signs of regression. He is a barker - for so long it was his only way to get help! However he is so incredibly loving and appreciative. Serious inquires, please call Terry at 912-272-0302 or email southerncomfortanimalrescue@yahoo.com or irishwolf59@aol.com.
