Description:

To say that Lila has had a pretty hard life prior to coming to SoCo would be a major understatement.

For over 1 1/2 years, we tried to get her former owners to surrender Lila and their other dogs to us as the young couple simply couldn't afford to provide even the basic care for them. Over that time, we supplied dog food and vet care as we could but there were times that the dogs simply didn't get to eat because the couple wouldn't buy dog food. We even offered to have Lila spay but the couple never took us up on the offer. That led to Lila having 45 puppies in the 1 1/2 years, most of them we took in.

Recently the couple lost electricity and water service to their home and they simply moved to a friend's house where they'd be more comfortable. But they left Lila and her companions, including 15 puppies, at their former residence. While we were able to convince them to give us the puppies rather quickly, they still refused to surrender the adult dogs. These dogs simply roamed the area, looking for food, water and love from where ever they could get it. But eventually we gained permission from the property owner and our city's police department to legally remove the adult dogs. Unfortunately, the night before we were able to get these dogs, one of them, which was also one of Lila's offspring, was hit and killed by a car.

Since coming to SoCo, Lila has now been spay, ending her life of free breeding. We've also updated all of her vaccinations, gotten her started on her monthly preventatives and, most importantly, provided her proper feedings on a daily basis. To our surprise, Lila even recently tested negative for heart worms, giving her the opportunity to be placed for adoption sooner than her former house companions.

Lila is a very friendly girl who enjoys just relaxing and getting belly rubs. She's great with people of all ages and is dog friendly but should be fed separately from other dogs. She's also cat friendly, having formerly lived with cats. And, despite having lived outdoors most of her life, Lila appears to be house trained as well.

Whoever is so lucky to get to adopt Lila will be getting an extremely wonderful and most deserving dog. On a personal note, I can't tell you how great it feels to finally be listing Lila for adoption after the 1 1/2 years of seeing her suffer and live in need of even the basic things in life that most dogs get.

Applications for Lila's adoption can be submitted at socorescue.com
